Professional golfer Corey Pavin announced that his wife Lisa has to return to the hospital for cancer treatments after her original cancer “never went away completely.”

The 1995 champion revealed back in February that Lisa, 52, completed her final round of chemotherapy treatments, however, on Tuesday, Pavin posted on social media that she was set to undergo more cell-based gene therapy treatment.

Neither Pavin nor his wife have revealed the exact type of cancer she is currently battling.

“Seven plus months ago, I posted that (Lisa) had her last chemotherapy,” Pavin wrote in a post on Instagram. “We found out a couple months ago that her cancer never went away completely.”

Despite the gut punch diagnosis, Pavin appears to be optimistic about the outlook based on his words online.

“Over the last two months and after multiple visits to The Mayo Clinic, Lisa is getting her CAR-T infusion today. We are hoping and praying that this will kick her cancers a–!”

Pavin writes that the emotional and physical toll of fighting the disease has been taxing while praising Lisa for her “courage” and showing plenty of gratitude towards the doctors as well as the family’s support group.

“To the doctors, nurses and everyone at The Mayo Clinic, a heartfelt thank you for your care and empathy,” he writes.

“And much gratitude to all of Lisas friends who have reached out to her for your prayers and support which has helped more than you will ever know!”

The comments are all universally positive and supportive, with followers offering prayers and words of encouragement , including former athletes such as Troy Aikman, Kenny Lofton and Teemu Selane.

Even during his wife’s battle, Pavin has found time to play the game he loves.

The former US Open champion took part in the Sanford International at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota last month, finishing 21 strokes behind eventual winner Zach Johnson.
