New Jersey Sports Betting — Best Sportsbooks and Apps | Outkick

New Jersey sports betting has a very extensive history. In 2012, the state kicked off a multi-year legal battle with the Supreme Court for legalization of sports betting. Retail sportsbooks became legal in June 2018 and mobile apps were legalized in July 2018. There are over a dozen legal sports apps, thanks to Bill A4111.

Yes, sports betting is legal in New Jersey and has been legal via mobile apps since July 11, 2018. You must be 21 years or older and physically located in the state to place a wager.

Below is a list of some of the best New Jersey Sportsbooks and betting apps. This is not a comprehensive list, and we encourage you to review all apps for yourself, but we do provide some highlights and things to consider, such as loyalty programs, lines, interface evaluation, and bonuses offered.

Whether it is a Bet-And-Get model, First-Bet Match, or Deposit Match, there are often welcome promotions from New Jersey Sportsbook for new users. With Bet-And-Get, users place a wager and get bonus bet funds after the initial wager. A First-Bet Match allows new users a chance to deposit money, place a wager, and if it loses, receive the funds back in a bonus bet. A Deposit Match is given to users so they can deposit an amount and then receive a match of (typically) 50–100%.

After years of legal battles with the Supreme Court, New Jersey led the way with the unanimous passing of Bill A 4111 on June 7, 2018. On June 11th of the same year, Governor Phil Murphy signed the bill into law. Retail sportsbooks were ready to go weeks later. Roughly a month later, the Division of Gaming Enforcement authorized licensed operators to roll out online and mobile sports betting. Since then, New Jersey has opened and approved over a dozen sports betting apps.

New Jersey has plenty of professional sports teams to wager on or against. The New Jersey Devils are probably the most associated with New Jersey considering it is in their name. Technically, the Giants and Jets — both tagged as New York — play in New Jersey. There are college teams that you can enjoy, including Seton Hall, Princeton, and Rutgers, among others, but you cannot bet on their games in the state.

New Jersey has regulations for betting on sports teams, including that you cannot wager on or against in-state teams. You also cannot bet on any game that is played within New Jersey, regardless of who participates in the game. However, there is one exception — if the game is part of a large tournament like March Madness and plays in New Jersey, you can wager on it. Additionally, player props are allowed, but there is a bill proposing to ban them.

There are multiple locations that offer retail sportsbetting as an option. A lot of them are located inside of casinos, but there are locations that have been built specifically for sports betting. You can also find stand alone locations and sportsbooks at racetracks.
